30" vs 24"

Hey, what do you guys think about the huge 30" 3007 display? I look at the resolution specs and just drool. I have a custom rig with a Dual Core X2 and a 7900GTX and I wanted to upgrade my display from my 17inch to something better to go along with this rig. I have owned 3 dell desktops/laptop and cannot complain. They have all worked amazingly and their monitors are just as great. Thus, I would like to remain loyal to the Dell brand. The dilema I face is this monitor vs the 24inch. The 30" monitor would be perfect if it had the inputs like the 24".I mean I would love to have the high resolution but I dont know if it is worth over 1000 extra dollars for a slightly higher resolution but only one measly DVI port. For what I believe is $754, the 24" monitor looks like a steal and a TV replacement when paired with my PCI tv Tuner card.

Not sure if this will help, but in my own monitor considerations I came across this link (posted by someone at another forum) which seems a great way to illustrate size/resolution differences between monitors. Seems a useful and maybe it will help you.

I was wondering the same thing before I bought the 24", and I must say I was very glad not to have spent all that extra money. The component ports make it an excellent alternative to an HDTV, and the screen is almost too big during normal desktop use. For half the price, you get a more versatile monitor. Go with 24" I say!

Yes, common sense says go for the cheaper more versitle 24" 2407 I believe is the model number. But that insane resolution looks just so gorgous and tempting. If that 30" comes down in price soon to around 1500 that would make the temptation o so worse. Anyone know how long Dell usually takes to drop monitor prices?

Just out of curiosity, I wanted to see how big the screen would be on these two monitors so using cardboard I made a cutout of both monitor panels. I put it on my desk in front of my current 17" monitor and this 30" monitor almost seems like it would be obsessively huge. I mean the darn thing would take up literally half the desk and unless you sat 5 feet away from it, it would almost be a hassle trying to look at it. Would be a great TV replacement if it had a TV tuner built in. Im sure this monitor is amazing but it almost seems too much for a HOME use computer.
